Why You’ll Love it:

Red dragon fruit adds a vibrant pink hue to smoothies! That alone is enough for me to love it, BUT it’s jam-packed with health benefits too.

  • Fiber – A one cup serving contains 7 grams of fiber! Including prebiotics, fiber that encourages the healthy bacteria in your gut.
  • Antioxidants – It’s full of antioxidants, including vitamin C, carotenoids, and betalains! Powerful plant compounds that reduce oxidative stress and your risk of cancer.
  • Immunity – Vitamin C helps boost your immune system to fight infection.

This strawberry dragon fruit smoothie is a mixture of strawberries, banana, dragon fruit, and Greek yogurt. It’s bright, creamy, and not too sweet.

Key Ingredients:

banana, frozen strawberries, frozen dragon fruit, juice, almond milk.
  • Banana – For a naturally sweet and creamy smoothie! Use a ripe banana for the best results.
  • Strawberries – I buy a huge bag of frozen strawberries at Costco. They’re good quality and affordable. Always check the price per ounce to see if it’s the best deal.
  • Dragon fruit – I used Pitaya foods frozen dragon fruit. They come in bite-sized pieces. You can find them at any well-stocked grocery store, including Walmart. Target sells their own brand too.
  • Almond milk – My favorite plant-based milk. It’s creamy, low in calories, and mild in flavor. I prefer Almond breeze or off-brands.
  • Orange juice – For a splash of bright, citrusy flavor! For a tangier smoothie, swap the almond milk with more orange juice.

How to Make a Strawberry Dragon Fruit Smoothie:

This dragon fruit smoothie is easy to make and customizable.

  • Combine ingredients: In the pitcher of a high-speed blender, combine all the ingredients. Start with the soft ingredients (i.e. banana and yogurt).
  • Blend: Start the blender on low speed, then gradually increase the speed to high. Blend until smooth.
  • Adjust: Taste for sweetness. If you prefer a sweeter smoothie, add a teaspoon of honey.
  • Serve: Pour into glasses and enjoy right away!

Variations & Substitutions:

  • Sweeter – For a sweeter smoothie, swap the almond milk and orange juice with passion fruit juice. I love Cere’s brand and it has no added sugar. If you can’t find it, you can buy it online or at World Market.
  • Fruit – You can swap the strawberries with frozen mango, frozen pineapple, mixed berries, or blueberries.
  • Protein – For a boost of protein, add 1 tablespoon of hemp hearts or 3 tablespoons of vanilla protein powder. Plant-based or regular both work great.

Recipe Tips:

  • Use frozen fruit, not fresh. Fresh fruit is made up of mostly water. For example, dragon fruit is 82% water. If you blend exclusively fresh fruit, you’ll end up with pulpy juice!
  • Don’t be afraid to customize it. This dragon fruit smoothie would taste great with passion fruit juice! Or for more tang, use only orange juice. It’s your smoothie and you’re the boss!

Storage:

Smoothies are best enjoyed immediately! You can store them in the fridge for 24 hours, but I only do it for up to 4. After that, the texture suffers.

I prefer to store leftover smoothies in popsicle form. I pour them into a popsicle mold, add popsicle sticks, then freeze overnight. They’re best when they get a little melty!
