Banana Smoothie
A classic banana smoothie that’s all about bananas! Bananas thicken, sweeten, and flavor this delicious smoothie. It takes 2 minutes to make and it’s easy to customize!
Why You’ll Love it:
Bananas are one of my all-time favorite ingredients for smoothies! I pick up two bunches every time I’m in the store.
Their naturally sweet and creamy texture goes in ANY kind of smoothie – green, fruit, chocolate, etc. They have a mild flavor that blends right in.
But this banana smoothie is ALL about the nanners! It’s just three ingredients and forgiving too.
Key Ingredients:
- Frozen bananas – A frozen banana blends into an ultra-creamy and thick consistency! It’s perfect for smoothies. Bananas are a good source of fiber, potassium, vitamin C, and antioxidants.
- Milk – You can use whatever you have on hand – plant-based or regular. I used unsweetened almond milk.
- Greek yogurt – For some high-quality protein and extra creaminess! For a sweeter smoothie, use vanilla Greek yogurt.
How to Make a Banana Smoothie:
This banana smoothie couldn’t be easier!
- Combine ingredients: Add all the ingredients to your blender.
- Blend: Turn your blender on low speed, then increase the speed to high. Blend until smooth.
- Taste: Taste for consistency and flavor. Adjust as desired. If you want it sweeter, add a teaspoon of honey, etc. If it’s too thick, add more liquid.
- Serve: Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately!
How to Freeze Bananas:
Whenever my bananas begin to look spotty, I immediately peel and freeze them. There’s multiple ways to do this, but I’m lazy so I just break them in half and freeze them in bags. Two halves = one frozen banana.
If you have a high-speed blender, you don’t need to cut them into slices. The blender can handle the big chunks just fine.
If you prefer to freeze bananas in slices, it’s a little bit more work. Here’s what to do:
- Slice the bananas into 1-inch thick slices.
- Line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- Arrange the banana slices on the sheet pan in an even layer.
- Freeze for at least 1 hour or until they’re frozen.
- Transfer the banana slices to a freezer-safe bag and mark the date with a permanent marker.
Variations:
- Protein powder – Add a scoop of chocolate or vanilla protein powder!
- Nut butter – Add 2 tablespoons of peanut, cashew, or almond butter.
- Ice cubes – For an icier texture, add a cup of ice cubes.
- Oats – Add 1/3 cup of rolled oats to make this a filling breakfast smoothie.
- Seeds – Add 2 teaspoons of chia seeds or 1 tablespoon of hemp hearts for added fiber and omega-3’s.
Recipe Tips:
- I always start with less liquid, then add more as needed. This way my smoothie isn’t runny. I prefer a thick but pourable consistency. If the smoothie’s too thick, simply add more milk!
- If you don’t have a high-speed blender, cut the bananas into slices before you freeze them. Smaller chunks are easier on a low-powered blender.
- I highly recommend a high-speed blender! They’re built to pulverize frozen ingredients into a super smooth consistency. I LOVE my Vitamix or for a more budget-friendly option, my Ninja.
