Why You’ll Love it:

My son and I love to share this pineapple smoothie bowl for breakfast. It tastes as bright and cheery as it looks!

Pineapple is nectarously sweet with a slight zip. It’s loaded with vitamin C, an essential vitamin for a healthy immune system, skin, and bones. I’ve been making this pineapple bowl on repeat and I have no plans to quit!

It’s just three simple ingredients – pineapple, banana, and a splash of pineapple juice! So simple and SO good.

Key Ingredients:

banana, frozen pineapple, pineapple juice.
  • Banana – For a creamy texture! A fresh banana works great. The frozen pineapple works as the thickener in this one.
  • Frozen pineapple – I buy a huge bag at Costco. Pineapple is rich in flavonoids and phenolic compounds, antioxidants with anticancer and protective effects.
  • Pineapple juice – A quarter cup of pineapple juice is the perfect ratio of sweetness and pineapple-y flavor.
  • Cold water – Just enough to get everything moving in the blender.

How to Make a Pineapple Smoothie Bowl:

This smoothie bowl is a breeze to make! Here’s how:

  • Combine ingredients: In your blender, combine the banana, frozen pineapple, juice, and water. Add the banana first. It’s soft and gets the blades moving!
  • Blend: Turn your blender on low speed, then gradually increase the speed.
  • Scrape: If the mixture stops moving, stop the blender. Scrape down the sides of the blender with a spatula and push the mixture toward the blades. Blend again until thick and smooth!
  • Adjust: Check for taste and consistency. If you like it sweeter, add some honey.
  • Serve: If necessary, remove the blade from the blender. Use a large spoon to scoop the mixture into a bowl. Add your favorite toppings!

Smoothie Bowl Tips:

  • For an ultra-thick smoothie bowl, reduce the liquid by a couple tablespoons. I prefer a thick yet soft smoothie. I don’t want to have to stop the blender a bunch of times.
  • Stop the blender if necessary. If the mixture stops moving, stop your blender and use a spatula to push the mixture towards the blades. Do this as often as you need to.
  • If possible, use a high-speed blender. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on one. Even budget-friendly brands carry high-speed models. If you do have money to invest, I highly recommend a Vitamix.
  • For a sweeter smoothie, swap the water with more juice or add a teaspoon of honey, maple syrup, or light agave.

Topping Ideas:

My favorite part about this pineapple smoothie bowl is the toppings! The options are endless and the best thing you can do is take a peek in your pantry.

Here’s a few ideas to get you started:

  • Coconut – Shredded or chips
  • Nuts – Cashews, sliced almonds, pistachios, pecans, walnuts.
  • Seeds – Chia seeds, hemp hearts, flax seeds, pepitas.
  • Fruit – Berries, kiwi, sliced bananas, mango, pineapple, oranges, pomegranate.
  • Dried fruit – Cherries, cranberries, raisins.
  • Granola – Any flavor!

FAQs:

How do you thicken a smoothie bowl?

The key to a thick smoothie bowl is frozen fruit and less liquid. Frozen fruit creates a thick texture and a small amount of liquid gets everything moving in the blender. The more liquid you add, the thinner the smoothie bowl will be.

Is pineapple good for you in smoothies?

Yes! Pineapple is packed with nutrients and beneficial plant compounds! It’s a good source of fiber, vitamin C, and manganese. Vitamin C is essential for a healthy immune system and iron absorption. It’s rich in antioxidants which help protect your cells from free radical damage!
