McDonald’s Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe
Make McDonald’s strawberry banana smoothie at home with this easy recipe! It’s only five ingredients and it tastes just like the original. Sweet, refreshing, and easy!
McDonald’s Smoothies:
If you love McDonald’s smoothies, you’ve come to the right place! Whenever I make copycat recipes, I always buy one first so I can taste them side-by-side.
This McDonald’s strawberry banana smoothie tastes just like the original, if not better! It’s sweet and refreshing, with notes of peach, pineapple, and white grape.
You only need 5 ingredients and then you make it on repeat. It’s budget friendly to make smoothies at home! One McDonald’s smoothie costs over 4 dollars with tax. Yikes!
Key Ingredients:
- Banana – Adds natural sweetness and a creamy texture! I’m a big fan of bananas in smoothies.
- Peach yogurt – This ingredient is critical if you want it to taste just like McDonald’s version! I used Yoplait because it had the right flavor. If you prefer less sugar, choose a brand with zero added sugar.
- Frozen strawberries – Of course! I buy a huge bag at Costco. Strawberries are a good source of fiber and antioxidants, like vitamin C.
- Pineapple & white grape juice – Adds more sweetness and the same fruity flavor as McDonald’s version.
How to Make McDonald’s Strawberry Banana Smoothie:
It’s super simple, as always!
- Combine ingredients: Add the ingredients to your blender. I always start with the soft ingredients (i.e. banana and yogurt) so my blades don’t stall.
- Blend: Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Adjust: Taste for sweetness level and check for consistency. If you like it sweeter, add some honey or maple syrup.
- Serve: Pour into glasses and enjoy right away! Smoothies are best enjoyed fresh.
Variations & Substitutions:
Feel free to customize this strawberry smoothie! You can add protein or greens for a boost of nutrients. Or you can make it dairy-free with one simple swap.
- Dairy-free: Swap the peach yogurt with dairy-free peach yogurt. Easy peasy!
- Protein: Swap the peach yogurt with peach Greek yogurt. Or you can add 3 tablespoons of vanilla protein powder.
- Greens: Add a handful of baby spinach for a boost of iron and micronutrients.
- Seeds: Add a tablespoon of hemp hearts or 2 teaspoons of chia seeds for plant-based protein and omega-3’s.
- Less sugar: This copycat tastes just like the original, which means its pretty sweet. For less sugar, swap the yogurt for plain Greek yogurt and the juice for almond milk.
FAQs:
McDonald’s strawberry smoothie is made from a strawberry banana fruit base, low-fat yogurt, and ice. The base is a sweetened puree with strawberry, banana, juice, and sugar.
They aren’t as bad as some takeout smoothies, but they’re also not the healthiest. Both the strawberry puree and low-fat yogurt have sugar in the ingredients, plus they don’t use whole fruits.
If you prefer a healthier version, you just need to make a few simple swaps. Swap the peach yogurt with plain Greek yogurt. Swap half or all of the juice with unsweetened almond milk.
Storage:
Smoothies have the best flavor/texture immediately after they’re made. Since it only takes 2 minutes to make one, I highly recommend enjoying it right away.
That being said, if you’re dead set on making a smoothie ahead of time, you can store it in the fridge. Pour it into a vacuum insulated cup and refrigerate for up to 24 hours.
