Green Kiwi Smoothie
This refreshing green kiwi smoothie tastes like the tropics! It boasts a bright green hue from immune-boosting spinach, mango, and kiwi. It’s packed with fiber, healthy fats, and antioxidants to help you feel your best.
Why You’ll Love it:
A sweet and zippy green smoothie with kiwi, mango, spinach, and passion fruit juice! This kiwi smoothie is so bright and cheery with loads of immune-boosting vitamin C.
Not only is this smoothie delicious, but I crave it! It’s a good breakfast smoothie because it has a little bit of everything – healthy fats, fiber, and 5 grams of protein per serving.
Even my 4 year old guzzles it down. Just remember to use ripe kiwi fruit! Unripe kiwi tastes unpleasantly sour.
Key Ingredients:
- Banana – I love bananas in smoothies! They create a thick and creamy texture, NOT an icy one. Plus they add plenty of natural sugar! For the best results, use a yellow, ripe banana.
- Kiwi – Kiwi is a winter fruit, meaning it’s grown during the fall and winter months. It’s important to use a ripe kiwi! Underripe kiwis are very sour and slightly bitter.
- Spinach – I recommend baby spinach – it has a milder flavor than mature spinach with the same amount of nutrients!
- Hemp hearts – These add plant-based protein and omega-3’s with no flavor change. They’re very affordable if you buy them at Costco!
- Frozen mango – I adore the nectarously sweet flavor of mango. And it goes very well in green smoothies because it doesn’t turn the smoothie brown. It’s packed with vitamin C, a nutrient your body needs to form cartilage, blood vessels, and collagen.
- Passion fruit juice – I like to add a splash (1/4 cup) of passion fruit juice for flavor and sweetness. Look for brands made up of 100% juice with no added sugar. I use Cere’s brand.
How to Make this Kiwi Smoothie:
It’s super simple, as always! Here’s how to make it:
- Combine ingredients: Add all the ingredients to a high-speed blender. I always start with my soft ingredients to get things moving.
- Blend: Always start your blender on low speed, then work your way up to full power. This reduces stalling, especially in a Vitamix. Blend until the mixture looks smooth.
- Taste: Taste for flavor and sweetness. For a sweeter smoothie, add a little maple syrup or honey.
- Serve: Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately!
Can I add protein to this smoothie?
Yes, there are multiple ways to boost the protein level in this kiwi smoothie! You can add a scoop of vanilla protein, 1/2 cup of mango Greek yogurt, or another tablespoon of hemp hearts. Chia seeds also add protein, but they add a little bit of texture too.
Storage:
Green smoothies are best enjoyed fresh and freezing cold! I don’t recommend storing this one in the fridge for longer than 4 hours. After that, the flavor/texture suffers a bit.
