Pineapple Broccoli Smoothie
This pineapple broccoli smoothie is refreshing, delicious, and full of greens! It’s nutrient-dense with protein, fiber, and immune-boosting vitamin C.
Veggies in Smoothies:
I could write poetry about my Vitamix. The way it blends any veggie into a smooth texture is magical! It’s worth the high price tag.
This tropical green smoothie is packed with pineapple, mango, raw broccoli, spinach, and hemp hearts. I feel energized when I drink it and I know I’m getting a ton of nutrients like potassium, calcium, and vitamin C.
For what it’s worth, my 10 year old said it tasted “too green”, but my 4 year old loved it. It’s currently my favorite green smoothie!
Key Ingredients:
- Broccoli – Broccoli is full of essential vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants! I used four raw broccoli florets.
- Apple – I prefer the sweet-tart flavor of Honeycrisp and Pink Lady apples, so that’s what I use. Sweeter varieties like fuji or gala work fine too.
- Spinach – I used spinach from my garden, but whenever I buy it in stores I choose baby spinach. It has a milder and sweeter flavor compared to mature spinach.
- Hemp hearts – One of my favorite smoothie additions! They boast a similar nutritional profile to chia seeds but they don’t add texture. I can’t even tell they’re in my smoothie. I buy a big bag of organic hemp hearts at Costco.
- Frozen pineapple/mango – For sweet and tangy vibes! They’re both packed with immune boosting vitamin C and pineapple is good for digestion.
- Passion fruit juice – I love this juice blend! Avoid Welch’s brand or brands that pack in a lot of excess sugar. I always buy Cere’s 100% passion fruit juice blend. You can find it at a well-stocked grocery store in the non-refrigerated juice aisle or at World Market.
- Water – It’s hydrating with zero sugar and no calories! I add a splash of juice for sweetness and finish with cold water.
Do I need a high-speed blender?
The key to a delicious green smoothie is a high-speed blender. A regular blender won’t pulverize the greens effectively, leaving you with a gritty unpleasant texture.
I highly recommend a Vitamix. While I like my Ninja, it just can’t perform as effectively as the Vitamix. The Vitamix can blitz almost anything and make it smooth.
How to Make this Green Smoothie:
It’s so simple! It takes less than 5 minutes to make. Here’s what you need to do:
- Combine ingredients: I make it a habit to start with “softer” or non-frozen ingredients. It gives the blades something to catch.
- Blend: Start the blender on low speed, then gradually increase the speed. You can use the tamper to push the ingredients toward the blades. If the mixture’s too thick, add a splash more liquid. Blend until smooth.
- Adjust: Taste for flavor and consistency. For a sweeter smoothie, add a little bit of honey.
- Serve: Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately.
Storage:
I don’t recommend storing this broccoli smoothie. It’s best enjoyed fresh and cold! The texture suffers as it sits in the fridge.
